Module 6: Effort and Persistence

 

Access Provide Multiple Means of Engagement. Select one of the checkpoints in Sustaining Effort and Persistence that interests you (CAST, 2018).


I looked at the section titled “Vary demands and resources to optimize challenge”. This section talks about how all students need to be challenged, but we cannot expect it to look the same for everyone. Therefore, as teachers we need to provide a variety of options, how we support students to succeed in those tasks might look different for each learner, and expectations of the finished product.  We are looking at where students have started, their effort to learn and growth in the process vs. the success of the end result.

Module 1: Equality vs. Equity

      Resource: bing.com     1.      Equality is giving everyone the same platform in which to succeed at a task. Equity understands that not everyone is starting from the same place, and without this recognition they may not be successful in completing the task.   So in equity extra support is given to those who may need it to succeed. 2.      Most of my teaching has been primary.   My students did not always know when I was assessing them. Assessment in primary grades is a lot of observation and taking in of samples. I like building portfolios because often you have work from the beginning of the year (the students baseline) and then from the end of year. This gives me, as a teacher, the view of each individual students growth, and this is what is celebrated.
